H ow many times do we see an adult with autism disorder? Not often, we tend to see more children with that disorder. With proper care, children tend to grow out of it somewhat and go on to live normal life. What is autism disorder? The American Heritage dictionary says. “Autism” Is “A psychiatric disorder of childhood characterized by marked deficits in communication and social interaction, preoccupation with fantasy, language impairment, and abnormal behavior, such as repetitive acts and excessive attachment to certain objects. It is usually associated with intellectual impairment.”
“HOW DOES CHILDREN WITH AUTISM WANT TO BE TREATED?”
While working at a Mental Health hospital here in Florida. A certain girl was brought in with the set disorder. She said to me. “I am a girl, and have girl problems and desires” They see themselves as normal, because they were born like that and have nothing to compare it to. If a person was born blind. Blindness is quite normal to such a person because they do not know what it means to see physically.
In the back of your mind, you must remember what disorder they have. However, treating them just likes how you treat other children. They do not want pity, charity, and special treatment. All they want is to see you treating them as normal. They want to see you trying to talk to them when they are looking at you. If he or she wants a sandwich, invite the child to make the sandwich on his or her own. Do not spoon fed them, nor baby them.
Allow them to go to the parks with other family member. Allow them to have phone as well as friends. If it is a girl, prepare her for adulthood, child baring and taking care of a family. Do not prevent them from having boy friend and girl friend. When he she comes of legal age, do not try to put a cap upon his or her sex life. Do not dump them off at group homes. One girl told me she prefer to kill herself than going back to that #ff## group home.
You cannot make them feel that you are looking down upon them. These autism children are pretty smart, and they can see right through you. Finally, do not ruffed them up speak to them calmly and intelligently. Pretty soon, it is only the autism looks they will have left. One of my aunts was autistic; she has a boy friend and six children. Yes! Children with autism disorder can live normal life because in their world they are normal.
Finding out what profession he she want to go into and pushes them into it. By time they begin to have urges and really started to give trouble, they will be making money and ready to have their own place of abode.
SOMETIME ONLY JESUS CAN HELP US:
Isaiah 55:6-AV Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Isaiah 55:7-AV Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
